Its Superbowl time again

February 2nd, 2013 · No Comments

As Y’all know, it’s almost Superbowl Sunday once again… With thee B-I-G game slated for Sunday, Feb 3 on CBS beginning at 6:25PM ET, albeit it’ll be on A-A-L-L DAMN DAY LONG, right? As there’s 4-hours of Pre-game babble with a pre-kickoff tease slated for 25-minutes beginning at 6PM ET.

With the game featuring the No. 2-seed NFC Division champion San Francisco 49ers vs. the No. 4-seed AFC Division champion Baltimore Ravens, with the 49ers having been the “los wages Sin City’ odds makers early favourites by 5-points.

Also, the game will make history by being the first ever Superbowl to pit two brothers as Head Coaches against each other, with John Harbaugh of Baltimore being the elder over younger brother Jim for the 49ers. As I don’t expect this to happen, but wouldn’t it be funny if their parents showed up wearing San Fran ravens & Balti-niners jackets, i.e.; half of the two teams sewn together… As I heard some fluff upon the Dan Patrick show pondering if they’d be receiving sideline passes for each team?

The 49ers via their regular season record won a first week bye during the wildcard round before thumping Green Bay 45-31 at Candlestick Park, and then after having spotted the Atlanta Falcons 17-points at the Georgia Dome, went into the locker-room trailing 17-14 at halftime.

Yet the 49ers came roaring back behind their hero “Captain K” (Colin Kaepernick) and Co. along with the Falcons simply melting down, making costly mistakes en route to losing 28-24 in the fourth quarter in surely what should have been their win instead…

Meanwhile in the AFC, the Ravens have had a tougher route to the Superbowl, albeit somewhat fueled by the “One More for Ray-Ray” tour, as we all know that Ray Lewis announced his impending retirement just prior to Baltimore’s wildcard round at home vs. the upstart Indianapolis Colts and No. 1 overall draft pick QB Andrew Luck.

And its funny how I didn’t pick up upon it sooner, but intriguingly fired Colts head coach Jim Caldwell is the Ravens new Offensive Coordinator and has serenely led Joe Flacco and the Ravens to victories over first his former team, beating Indianapolis 24-9. Then the following week Caldwell masterminded a shocking double overtime win against his ex-QB, the perennial Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, when the Ravens stunned the No. 1 seeded Broncos 38-35.

And then ultimately, as Y’all also know, Baltimore did the unthinkable in the Division finals by doing what hadn’t been accomplished in sixty-seven prior games, as the New England Patriots home field advantage was 67-0 when leading at halftime at Fox borough, which was exactly what the Patriots were doing with a score of 13-7. Yet Flacco simply came back en masse guiding Baltimore to score 21-points while the Ray Lewis inspired defense pitched a second half shutout en route to a shocking 28-13 road victory! Thus as those overly astute media pundits pointed out; Flacco’s defeated Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady with nary an INT thrown in order to reach this year’s Superbowl…

The game will be played in ‘Nwalins Mercedes Benz Dome, as its also been pointed out how the somewhat maligned San Francisco kicker David Akers has been floundering lately inside domed stadiums, having missed a chip shot in Atlanta I believe.

And although I should be rooting for the 49ers for several reasons - one being my NFL West Division champions; being from the west coast and a most likely unknown racing connection to Y’all, i.e.; Jim Harbaugh is a co-owner of Indy Cars Panther Racing, who’ve previously ran a 49ers tribute motif last year when the series raced at Sonoma, California with Sausalito native J.r. Hildebrand behind the wheel of the No. 4 racecar…

As perhaps some of you diehard sports fans will recognize the number which Jim Harbaugh wore as an NFL quarterback, yet this is exactly why I don’t want the Pac-12 Alumni Stanford Cardinals coach to win the B-I-G game, as he simply rubs me the wrong way with ALL of his tantrums when he doesn’t get his way!

And I’m still wondering how Mr. Sporty’s (and my ‘Homeboyz) Seattle Seahawks managed to so thoroughly decimate the 49ers 42-13 at Seattle in the regular season if they’re so great? Yet I do have to say that Harbaugh’s insertion of their new superstar QB has forced me to learn how to “’peel Kaepernick’s name; Hya!

Thus you’re NON Stick ‘N Ball Sportyblog scribe is rooting for the Baltimore Ravens to be victorious in Superbowl XL VII for Joe Flacco & Co. and Jim Caldwell’s sake…

Ravens Caldwell let’s Offense make Loudest Statement
