The Bambino’s Sweater hits a Home run!

As the world of Women’s Soccer crumbles under the current strain of the nation’s economy - on the opposite side of the pitch a piece of Americana has hit a “Grand Salami!” As The Bambino or The Sultan of Swat, known primarily as Babe Ruth and formally as George Herman “Babe” Ruth just saw a piece of his memorabilia hit a Home run of astounding proportions during an auction held this past Sunday.

Apparently the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees Slugger, saw his used road jersey sweater Fly Fly Fly Away for an unheard of $4.4-million; EUREKA! As California based SCP Auctions company sold the 1920’s grey wool jersey with New York sewn across its chest and Ruth, G. H. inscribed in faded pink script on its collar fetch a new all-time world record for Sports memorabilia at any auction - as the mesmerizing final bid of $4,415,658 exceeded the previous record, the two paged typewritten original 13-rules of what has become NBA Basketball by nearly $80,000.

And Ruth’s jersey smashed all previous items sold for The Bambino - nearly quadrupling the previous record mark of a paltry $1.26m shelled out for his baseball bat used to hit the first Home Run in Yankees Stadium.

Another item of note was an ex-Babe Ruth baseball cap previously owned by Yankees pitcher David Wells who reportedly paid $35k for the cap he subsequently wore during a game in 1997 which fetched a cool $537k, while on the opposite end of the spectrum - Lawrence Taylors Superbowl ring sold for a measly $230,000…
