New Your Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire of the NBA will undergo some type of non-surgical treatment and then enter a period of rehabilitation for what has been described as a bulging disk that has developed in his lower back. This is expected to keep the Center out of action for approximately two to four weeks, the Knicks said on Wednesday.
Bad news for the Knicks? Yes. Bad News if you are playing Fantasy Basketball? Most definitely. I happen to own Amare in one of my two leagues. This is a 16 team league with very little help available on the waiver wire. With playoffs just around the corner, it couldn’t have come at a worse time.
I have read some reports that speculate that Amare will need to have surgery in the off season to fix the bulging disk. This is a big red flag for his Fantasy and real life value as a player going forward. I can assure you that I will never be drafting or trading for Amare again.
As for what you should do if you currently own Amare on your fantasy team, this is a great question. I am going to try to find someone who still wants to own him for the long term and see if I can make a trade for any value I can get for the playoffs. As for what is Amare going to do to manage his back pain, he may need to visit a Canada Drug Pharmacy and purchase some strong pain killers or some muscle relaxants.
Some analysts are looking for Amare to make a retuirn for the last few games of the season while others are thinking he may be available for the playoffs if the Knicks make it. We will just have to cross our fingers and wait to see how this unfolds.
