Cardinals Ruling the NFC West

edge and leinart on the bench

The Arizona Cardinals have long been the punch line for every bad football joke.  They are always compared to the bad teams in the league who can never seem to find success.  They are legendary for their ability to blow it at the last minute by making bad plays and bad decisions.

They have looked good at times in the past only to prove that it was a fluke and nothing more.  But this year, something is different.  The Cardinals aren’t making the critical mistakes at the wrong time in a game.  They aren’t dropping those sure passes and giving up the huge plays to opposing teams at the end of the game.

And the way they are doing it is very intriguing.  For example, who would have guessed that they would ever bench their star running back, Edgerrin James?  Well that is just what they did.  They replaced him with a high powered rookie named Tim Hightower.

And how about that superstar quarterback named Matt Leinart? How is it that the aging Kurt Warner beat him out for the starting quarterback position?  It all comes down to the head coach Ken Wisenhunt.  He is not afraid to make the right decisions.  He is willing to play the better player even if he is the only one who realizes it.

Last week when they beat the Seahawks, Wisenhunt even played J.J. Arington in front of the Edge.  This was a brilliant move as J.J. was able to cash in on two touchdowns.  Edge would never have had the speed or desire to get those scores.

So as we move through this season it has been a pleasure to watch the stumbling bumbling Arizona Cardinals turn into a top caliber team capable of doing some serious damage to any who dare to fly into their nest.
