Names like Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Joe Montana bring to mind the good old days when the San Francisco 49ers were a team you really didn’t want to play. Fast Forward to 2006 and you will find a team that has been in decline for a few years. Mike Nolan and the 49ers A are trying to rebuild the franchise once called one of the best. First round pick Alex Smith started seven games but the results weren’t good. He does have all the traits you want from your quarterback including confidence.
The 49ers had the worst offense and defense in the NFL this year. They were out gained by an average of 167 yards a game. That’s the most since the NFL Merger with the AFL in 1970. The 49ers will probably lose Julian Peterson as they tagged him their franchise player and most likely won’t be resigned. Nolan his filling the team with new blood and doing it his way. Will he get the same results as his predecessors? Only time will tell if that comes to pass.
