Going into the bowl season many people gave thumbs down to the Big 12 conference as they said there was only one good team and the rest were just fillers for bowl games. Don’t look now but the Big 12 has only lost one bowl game so far that’s Clemson over Colorado. Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri have all logged wins. The biggest one coming so far was the upset of number six Oregon by the Oklahoma Sooners.
Texas was considered the only Big 12 worth mentioning in press releases but players like Missouri Brad Smith has shown there’s more talent in the Big 12 than just Vince Young and the Texas Longhorns. Sure Texas is the cream of the crop, but don’t slight the other Big 12 teams as rest of the country is finding out Big 12 college football can play with most anyone.
Is it a down year for the Big 12? Yes, as far as top teams it’s a down year but that doesn’t mean teams from the Big 12 can’t compete against other conferences, because they can. If Texas comes through against U.S.C. people won’t be calling the Big 12 a weak conference anymore as the Big 12 could go 8-1 in bowl games. If they do that it will quiet all the nonbelievers for another year.
